Anamu – aka Guinea hen weed

Anamu (Guinea Hen Weed) Anamu (Petiveria alliacea) is a herb that is indigenous to the Amazon rainforest and the tropical areas of the Caribbean, Central and South America and Africa. It is also known in Jamaica as guinea hen weed, guinea hen leaf, garlic weed or gully root. Anamu has been used for a wide variety of conditions, including arthritis, digestive disorders, infections, diabetes, cancer, for pain relief, and to induce abortion. Some of the compounds isolated from the plant have never been identified in any other plant – some were similar to compounds found in garlic, a plant known to have medicinal properties. Laboratory investigations show that anamu retards the growth of several strains of cancer and leukaemia cells. In a plant-screening programme performed at the University of Illinois at Chicago, over 1,400 plant extracts were evaluated for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Anamu was one of only 34 plants identified with active properties against cancer. One of its active chemicals is dibenzyl trisulphide (DTS) which is known to directly kill all cancer cell lines that it has been tried on (while not harming normal cells). “…DTS at concentration of 10 mM, a dose lethal to all cancer cells tested,…” West Indian Medical Journal, 2007 Jan; 56(1):17-21. Other substances in the herb boost the immune system, fight infections and relieve pain. On the negative side it is not advised for pregnant women (it induces abortion), for people on blood thinners (it is a blood thinner) or for hypoglaecemia. Artemesia and cancer

Here is a link to an interesting article on the effectiveness of Artemesia against cancer. It reacts with iron to create free radicals – so this is one of the few times when cancer patients treating their cancers should take iron which is otherwise not recommended.

People still suffering from radiation treatments

For anyone contemplating radiation treatment for their cervical cancer then I urge you to read the posts in this forum. This is a subject very close to my heart as my wife died in part from the impacts of her chemo and radiation. Let me tell you straight. There are other ways – as you will read in my books. Please be sensible.

As a postscript I just got an email from my friend Jan whose arm is crumbling from progressive radiation damage that has left her right arm useless for the last 30 years.

“I took a really bad tumble yesterday, ended up A&E squashed vertibrae etc etc. All the staff showed horror at state of my shoulder and arm until I told them the cause then they completely disregarded – my daughter was astounded at change of attitude.”

Cancer, Metformin and James Watson

James Watson – co-discoverer of the structure of DNA – has prostate cancer. One of the drugs he has insisted on taking is Metformin, an anti-diabetic drug that reduces glucose production in the liver and so reduces blood sugar levels. The connection of sugar and cancer is well known.

Watson also believes in taking simple over the counter anti-inflamamtory such as baby aspirin.

“Researchers have also discovered that cells in advanced cancers secrete molecules that promote inflammation. There’s now pretty good research that suggests that if you take a baby aspirin a day, you get less cancer.”

It is also known that diabetics taking Metformin have lower incidence of cancer.

“If this is right, this is a bombshell, and all chemotherapy should be done with Metformin,” he said. “People say, ‘Will we ever find a single drug which will kill all cancer?’ … I say, maybe it’s happened already.”
