Ben Goldacre turns on Big Pharma
Posted by Jonathan Chamberlain on September 26, 2012
“Because researchers are free to bury any result they please, patients are exposed to harm on a staggering scale throughout the whole of medicine.” – this is a quote from Ben Goldacre’s new book.
Ben Goldacre has often been seen as a key pro-everything-conventional front man but here he focuses his ire on the bad practices of the drug companies.
Goldacre believes in ‘science’ and is virulently hostile to anything that smacks of ‘non-proven’ or supported-only-by-anecdotal-evidence therapies. Unfortunately, the foundations of his position are seriously undermined by the practice of drug companies in suppressing and distorting ‘scientific’ evidence. So the issue of evidence is that you can’t trust it no matter where it is published. Which brings us back to personal experience. If it feels good do it, if it doesn’t don’t.

This story is not new – I have reported on it – and other defects of cancer research as currently practiced in my book The Cancer Survivor’s Bible – www.fightingcancer.com
The issue of fraud is not an occasional defect – it is a significant one as reported in this article
