Linus Pauling is often described as a double Nobel prize winner – but one of those prizes was a Peace Prize and therefore shouldn’t count. Much more interesting is the accolade from James Watson – co-discoverer of the structure of DNA – who rated him as of the intellectual equal to Newton and Einstein. He believes that if he had not discovered it (the structure of DNA) when he did, Pauling himself would have done so very soon after.
